St Ouen’s CC 155 for 7 in 40 Overs
Caesareans CC 100 all out
St Ouen’s won
the toss and elected to bat at LQ1 in the last group game in the Senior Cup
knowing that a win would put them into the final.
Unfortunately, it looked as though this decision could prove to
be a bad one against the tight bowling of Danny Bower and Fergus Gibson and with
Amy (8), Kynman (9), Gomersall (3) and Tribe (1) all back in the pavilion with
only 41 on the board.
However, St Ouen’s score of 155 was based around 3 innings, Craig
Douglas (35) who took the attack to the Caesareans bowlers and never missed out
on putting the bad ball away. Rob
Tewkesbury batting down the order due to the excesses of the night before held
the innings together with a pedestrian, by his standards, 35 from 77
balls. The impetuous was provided by
South African Grant Phillips who hit 30 from 29 balls smashing the last ball of
the innings from Richard Huckle straight back over his head for 6.
Phillips was thrown the ball at the start of the Caesareans
innings and this proved a masterstroke as he clean bowled both the openers. This brought together Dave Gorman and Meeku
Patidar who are the danger men for Caesareans but after 10 overs St Ouen’s
introduced Paul Horton and Craig Douglas.
Douglas bowling his 8 overs spell and conceding just 16 runs. Horton was equally as miserly only allowing
13 runs to be taken from his 8 overs although he also ripped out the heart of
the Caesareans batting line up removing Patidar with the help of the ever
dependable hands of Gomersall at cover, Gibson, Ramskill, Elanco and clean
bowling Huckle.
Gorman was still there happy just to see off both Douglas and
Horton and then with the help of a runner look to increase the run rate. But when Horton threw down the stumps from cover
to run out Irtizaali and Santosh was also run out 1 wicket was left between St
Ouen and victory. Gomersall then
trapped Gorman leg before to see St Ouen’s home.
