OV's res served up a helping of Special Kay - Sunday 5th
August 2007
A man of the match performance from Jersey U-19 star Anthony Kay helped St Ouens Res to a
hard earned 57 runs victory over Rathbones OV's Res at LQ1.
After winning the toss, St Ouens
were in early trouble at 31-5. However, the next wicket did not fall for
nearly 20 overs as Kay (107 n.o.) & skipper Simon Varley (45)
constructed a match winning century partnership. After Varley's dismissal,
Kay completed his maiden century with a huge 6 over long on and assisted by
El Blazey & Pat Dean ensured that exactly 100 runs came off the last 10
overs of the innings.
OV's lost 2 early wickets in their
reply, however a 3rd wicket partnership between Aidan Maguire (26) and Tom
Gibbs (74) kept them well in the game. The introduction of Kay to the
attack changed matters, however, as he bowled an unchanged spell of 6 overs
to record figures of 4-26. The highlight of his spell was the claiming of a
hat trick when he clean bowled Gibbs, Cartmell and Harvey off successive
balls.
