Evening League vs Abacus

5 May 2004

Abacus           104 for 4 in 12 overs
St Ouen's       101 for 5 in 12 overs

St Ouen's started their campaign as league champions following a dramatic win against SCF last season in a sudden death play off.

Abacus decided to bat at the home of cricket, FB2.  With a depleted bowling line up St Ouen's were happy to see Paul Horton, struggling with his calf, bowling 3 miserly overs and conceding just 19 runs.  After Danny Blasco and Jersey's Premier Opening Fast Bowler had completed the first 6 overs Mark Tribe and Andy Brown entered the fray.  Tribe (3 for 23) ripped out the top order of Robinson, Williams and Lesbirel narrowly missing a further  wicket as Horton spilled a sitter at extra cover.  Brown trapped West LBW for 2 and after 12 overs Abacus posted a gettable total of 104.

Rob Tewkesbury (30) and Gary Kynman (44) set about getting the total.  The bowling was tight and both found it difficult to get away.  Tewkesbury was
first to go but not until the 11 over when the run rate had dramatically increased.   Then followed an explosive period from Kynman before falling to Lesbirel.  Paul Le Bihan was run out and Ward Jenner was caught first ball.

This left Phil Le Cornu facing and Mark Tribe at the non strikers end needing 14 for victory.  Le Cornu hit a flat 6 straight followed by a 4 through long on leaving just 4 for victory.  The next ball he did not connect with an was run out.
