St Ouen’s CC vs Old Victorians at Grainville 22
May 2004
St Ouen’s CC 132
for 8 in 45 overs
Old Victorians 133
for 5 in 38.5 overs
Back at Grainville and a
track rarely seen until this year, variable bounce and bowler friendly not a
batsman’s paradise. St Ouen’s won the
toss and surprisingly batted and where soon in trouble as Tewkesbury was caught
by the irrepressible Andy Brown low down to his left in the gully. Kynman was trapped LBW and Tribe caught at
short leg of a sharply rising delivery of Colin Graham.
This brought together
Gomersall and Paul Le Bihan both ever watchful and with some surprising bowling
changes let St Ouen’s back into the game.
Gomersall was first to go for 21 and Le Bihan run out for a well made 52
from 99 balls.
Danny Blasco hit 19 and
Dendy Thompson was left 18 not out finishing the innings in style by hitting
Ward Jenner onto the Pavilion roof for 6.
Early wickets were needed
and The Old Victorians’ Openers wanted to oblige but stumps were not hit with
the batsmen only just crossing. Soon
both were back in Clubhouse and St Ouen’s confidence was rising. However a slow run scoring partnership
between Marshallsay (22) and Andy Brown (37) developed. Strangely Brown became more fluent when he
called for a runner and high and mighty leg side shots were hit. The third made Rob Tewkesbury pull up with a
hamstring strain following a long run.
The impetus was picked up by Bobby Minty (38*) who scored at almost a
run a ball and Colin Graham hit the winning runs.
