St Ouen’s CC 1st XI vs Caesareans CC at LQ1

8th May 2004

St Ouen’s CC               80 All Out

Caesareans CC            77 All Out

After some debate by the Caesareans Captain, Meeku Patidar, St Ouen’s were inserted on a typical low slow track at LQ1.  Bowlers were always going to be on top on this track and the St Ouen’s batsmen found it tough going.  Only Extras (19), Rob Tewkesbury (17), Paul Le Bihan (14) and Gary Kynman (14) made double figures the later carrying on from Wednesday’s evening league game, batting for over 1 hour and 10 minutes.  Huckle and Elanco took 3 wickets a piece, Gibson and Bower both 2.  The later only conceding 7 runs in a 6 over spell.

Although 100 would have been a total to defend the St Ouen’s bowling attack, recently described as having as much bite as a Shane McGowan smile, knew that a victory was unlikely to be the outcome.  However, When Karl Moyse (4 for 20) had returned openers Bertram and Kotidia and ex-Island skipper, Dave Gorman, to the pavilion with only 5 on the board Caesareans knew someone was going to have to make a score.

Captain Patidar (28) took up the challenge lofting balls over the leg side to relieve some pressure but further wickets fell to Gomersall (2 for 25) and the 1st change bowler Dave Morfee (2 for 15). But it was Mark Musselwhite (2 for 13) who finally removed the danger man when with only 29 runs required from well over 20 overs, Patidar was caught at long on playing one to many shots in the air.  He may have not believed his shot selection but could consider himself unlucky as he was dismissed off the 7th ball of the over.

St Ouen’s Captain Gomersall only used 4 bowlers but rotated them to make further extractions.  However, Danny Bower (16) came to the wicket in positive mood and could have spoilt the St Ouen's party but Morfee returned to the attack and removed Bower's off stump to get the St Ouen’s league campaign off to a winning start.
