St
Ouen’s CC 149 all out
St
Ouen’s CC Skipper Richard Gomersall won the toss an elected to bat on a track
that looked hard and fast. After the
first over that was apparent as St Ouen’s opened with a flyer as the score
rattled to 10, with a little help of some over enthusiastic aerosol bowling
from Nick Derbyshire.
On 17
St Ouen’s lost Dendy Thompson and Gomersall for 0 and 7 respectively and a run
later Simon Varley was making his way back for 0. The second wicket for Derbyshire.
Rob
Tewkesbury (11) and Gary Kynman (13) moved the score on to 44 before Tewkesbury
was brilliantly caught in the slips off Stuart Bisson. Kynman played on shortly after and both Dave
Parry and Paul Horton did not stay long.
At this stage drinks were taken and the confident Rovers players
mentioned a target of 85.
But
Danny Blasco (19) and Mark Tribe put together a solid partnership of 49 easily
passing the Rovers target and reducing the noise from the fielding side. It did not stop there as then Tribe added 10
with Moyse and 23 with Clarke giving valuable runs for St Ouen’s as the tail
wagged. Tribe ended up 46 not out. St Ouen’s were grateful for an additional 36
extras, the bulk being 16 wides and 12 no balls.
After
Lunch St Ouen’s needed early wickets but they did not materialise and with a
few too many overpitched deliveries the scoreboard was soon rattling
along. Richard Headington playing
lovely shots all round the wicket and seizing on to anything short over
pitched. Derbyshire looked less
accomplished and eventually tried to hit himself out of a rut and found the
boundary a few times.
He was
always overshadowed by Headington who reached 50 and after Derbyshire had been
caught but the running wicket keeper Dave Clark, perished to the first ball
bowled by Rob Tewkesbury with the scores tied.
Rovers won the game two balls later as the ball travelled to the boundary.
