JEP KO 2nd Round Evening League vs St Helier Rugby Club
8 June 2004
St Ouen's CC 125 for 3 in 15 overs
St Helier Rugby Club 89 all out
Five Star in Town as Ramskill turns it
The established opening St Ouen's pair of Rob
Tewkesbury and Jamie Brewster pushed shots all around the wicket finding gaps
and taking runs where available against some tight opening overs from Grant
Phillips and Whitwell. Tewkesbury (42)
had already been hit on the head by a throw from the keeper when returning the
ball to the bowler which left him dazed but he continued knowing this would be
his last game for a number of weeks. Brewster (17) was first to go caught
behind of the bowling of Grant Phillips (1 for 20). This brought Ward Jenner (56*) to the wicket who looked confident
and soon was scoring freely.
Veteran Chris Searson was rewarded for some tight and thoughtful bowling with
the wicket of Tewkesbury, bowled for 42. St Ouen's osted 125 for 3 but
could St Helier make them pay for the last over which yielded just 2 runs from
the bat.
It looked to be the case as Chris Searson (29) enjoyed deliveries from Barry Middleton
by lofting him twice high and handsomely over extra cover, 12 came from this
first over. St Ouen's other new ball bowler was as usual South African
Giant Moriko Kemp who steadied the ship rattling of 8 balls and conceded just 4
runs. Middleton removed Searson with the help of Paul Horton who took a
confidence building catch on the deep cover boundary. Danny Blasco took 2 St
Helier wickets for 18 in 3 overs but it was leg spinner Stuart Ramskill who
saved the best until his last over when he removed 4 St Helier batsmen, Butlin,
Glenon, Kent and Roche without conceding a run. He ended up with figures
of 5 for 14 from 3 overs.
Only Grant Phillips showed resistance being the last man out for St Helier making
30 and giving St Ouen's a comfortable 36 run victory.
