St Ouen’s CC vs Jersey Academicals at LQ1 on 16 June 2004

Jserey Accies            114 all out in 15 overs

St Ouen’s CC            118 for 2

St Ouen’s continued their good form brushing aside Jersey Academicals a LQ1 to take them into the Semi-Finals of the JEP KO Cup.

The Academicals won the toss and decided to bat which looked to be a good move as the second over bowled by Danny Blasco went for 15 including 3 boundaries.  It would not have helped the youngster’s confidence that Paul Horton in True Matador form gave the big ‘Ole’ to a catch on the Mid Wicket Boundary, which bounced once before the ropes.  ‘The Sun’

Gareth Jeffreys (2 for 21) replaced Blasco and promptly removed both openers with Moriko Kemp reeling off 3 miserly overs for just 15 runs.  The bowlers fed both Dewhurst and de la Haye short deliveries with width, which they pounced on.

Dendy Thompson was soon into the swing of things and removed both De la Haye and Dewhurst and took 2 further wickets to finish with 4 for 27 from 3 overs.  His figures where ruined by Will Sinclair who hit him for 2 straight sixes.  At the other end Island Batsman Ward Jenner was rushed in to complete the 2 remaining overs from the LQ2 ground end that Blasco had left.  He removed Glennon, Dicker, Chipperfield and Travers.  The later removed by a self-preservation catch taken by Thompson at short mid wicket after the batsman had creamed the ball of the middle of the willow.

St Ouen’s fielding both ground and catching was excellent with catches from Andy Brown (2), Dave Clark (2, one full length to his right inches from the ground), Mark Tribe (3) and Dendy Thompson and Ward Jenner one apiece.

In reply St Ouen’s started in purposeful mood as Blasco testing out the fitness of his partner Andy Brown only dealt in 2s.  Finally Brown got the strike and a more measured and leisurely approach was adopted.  The run rate increased until a blast from Blasco and Brown was removed by S Dicker for 9.  Blasco went shortly after for 31 and Ward Jenner (33*) and Mark Tribe (30*) accumulated the necessary runs to see St Ouen’s home with an over to spare.
