Caesareans Vs St Ouen’s CC at FB1 on 12 June 2004
St Ouen’s bounced back from the defeat against Old Codgers last
week to compete the double in the Weekend League against 10 man Caesareans at
FB1.
Caesareans started their innings at an alarming rate for the St
Ouen’s new ball partnership of Paul Horton and Karl Moyse. They scored at 5 runs per over before Dave
Morfee was introduced trapping Arron Eager leg before for 18. Meeku Patidar (42) palayed a captains
innings although the base for the Caesareans total of 196 was set by an
excellent innings of 76 by Danny Bertram.
He was finally removed by St Ouen’s Captain Richard Gomersal caught by
Mark Tribe at mid wicket.
Could the disciplinary
panel sit for the first time this season following the reaction of Arron Eager
to his LBW decision? The Birthday Boy
thought he had hit the ball and gestured to the Umpire but his bat-throwing
incident afterwards was not enjoyed by the fielding side and team mates alike.
In reply Gomersall and Dave Morfee took the score to 28 before
Gomersall was caught behind off the bowling of Richard Huckle. Mark Tribe (27) and Morfee saw off the
Caesareans openers although Caesareans would be ruing the 3 dropped catches
offered by Morfee in his 81. Tribe went
LBW to Mark Woodall (3 for 43) and Dave Parry followed 2 balls later for 0.
Morfee scored freely playing lovely shots straight and behind
square. He was finally removed by
Woodall with victory in sight.
Gareth Jeffreys (15) injected some impetus confidently striking
the ball and taking any runs available.
After he was returned to the Pavilion Danny Blasco 23 not out continued
where he left off. After being dropped
at the end of the previous over Dendy Thompson played a glorious off drive for
4 to bring up a much needed win.
