St
Ouen’s CC vs SCF in Evening League at Grainville on 14 July 2004
SCF 98 for 0 in 9.1
overs
St
Ouen’s batted first in the return fixture against old enemies SCF. The St Ouen’s batsmen struggled against the
SCF bowlers Jewell, Reynolds and Hague with Rob Tewkesbury, Gary Kynman, Dendy
Thompson, Mark Tribe and Paul Horton all returned to the pavilion with only one
double figures score between them.
But it
was Dave Parry who was to provide the entertainment for the St Ouen’s
supporters. He arrived late after
making his way to LQ1 only to find St Ouen’s were playing at Grainville. It was like he had taken directions from the
second change bowler Rene Maraj because he launched into an unending assault on
his 2 overs with huge shots on the leg side.
The further the ball was bowled outside off stump the harder and further
it was hit on the leg side.
It was
not to stop there he also pushed 2 shots on the off side to show that he is
capable of playing shots all around the wicket. He was stumped of the last ball of the innings for 47 very
enjoyable runs.
In
reply Mo Kemp immediately pinned the younger Carlyon with a flat delivery which
he could not avoid. After that Hague
and Carlyon knocked off the required number of runs to take the full 6
points. Carlyon is understood to have
fractured his hand after this delivery.
