2004 INJURIES

Paul Horton – calf.

Paul had been ruled out for 6 weeks at the start of the season with a calf strain.  He says ‘He has never been the same since he was aged 26 when he injured his ankle’.  After a session with the physio who could find nothing wrong the calf, 2 hours on the treadmill and a kick around at Granville before the SCF Evening League game all seemed well.  However when he was asked to get his kit as Danny Blasco failed to turn up for the game, he turned and the calf gave way again.

Prognosis:  6-8 weeks – Career threatening or could just be in his head !

Micky Poulter – Finger

He broke a finger when taking a throw from the outfield.  The ball hit end of keeper’s gloves as he fell backwards over SCF batsman Trevor Rousseau.

Although following a black eye picked up from a St Helier Rugby Club evening league game where he used eyebrow and forehead to stop an on drive from the batsman, he will replace the Panda as the new face for the World Wildlife Foundation.

Prognosis:       6-8 weeks for finger

                        WWF a lifetime signing autographs

Robin Tewkesbury – calf, breast plate and now hamstring.  Long term finger trouble.

After a serious life changing decision to set up home and become model boyfriend, Rob immediately picked up a serious calf strain after gardening!

He has not been picking the ball up well this year as the St Ouen’s bowlers have found when hit from the opponent’s bat and out of the hand of the opponents bowlers hands.  He received a direct hit to the breastplate after the ball missed both hands.  The latest injury to the hamstring was picked up after 3 long chases to collect 3 large legside slogs from the bat of Andy Brown.  Rob can consider himself unlucky to pick up an injury as until the moment Andy had played everything bowled at him in the last 20 overs with his left pad.

Prognosis:       6 weeks although this means he can now enjoy his 4-week mid-season

Break.

Simon Varley – Ribs

Injury picked up when stopping a definite boundary on the line in the low scoring encounter against Caesareans.  The ball was trapped between ground and ribs causing severe bruising.  It would have also appeared to affected his hearing as the crowd where baying for his blood as the ball was returned to the keeper with no thought of agreeing the crowd’s decision of 4.  This selfless action helped St Ouen’s to their first league win and can only be commended.

Prognosis:       No reason why he cannot play as he played mid week for Nat West

where his is Captain.

Gary Kynman – Ribs and Surrounding Muscles

This could be serious for the, some say older than he lets on, batsmen.  Swans was told of injury but in true form the medical man from ITU gave full terminology from the trade.  Suffice to say his truss does not allow full movement in the field these days following the elbow in the ribs, running is a problem, as is throwing although the injury would appear to have stopped his front pad flying towards any delivery as after 3 consecutive LBWs he was pleased to be caught behind on Saturday but disappointed with the score, 0.

Prognosis:       Sounded like he is lucky to be alive but is still playing on.  A true Gritty Northerner!

UPDATE:        PS Richard - Had an x-ray & have cracked a rib - all sympathy welcome I appreciate Clarkey will be the first to send a get well soon card !
