St Ouen’s CC vs Old Victorians at LQ2 on 24
April 2004
St Ouen’s CC 151
for 7 in 39.5 overs
St Ouen’s went into this
earlier season game on unfamiliar territory LQ2 but the return of Dave Morfee from
the wilderness with SCF last year will add and additional bowling option and an
opening bat.
But it was the opening
pair of Vice Captain Karl Moyse (2 for 19) and Skipper Richard Gomersall (2 for
35) who ripped though the Old Victorians’ and Island first 1,2 and 4. Gough,
Jones and Jenner all returned to the hutch without troubling our scorer
Lyn. Marshallsay (70) batted with
control and aggression when necessary with dogged assistance from the pad
thrusting Andy Brown (19) and a flurry from Colin Graham. Old
Victorians innings closed on 150.
St Ouen’s Skipper rotated
8 bowlers with Dave Morfee completing just 3 deliveries on his return and
pulled up with something that looked like dartitus.
Morfee would not let us
down with the bat he resumed where let left off 2 seasons ago in harness with
Robin Tewkesbury (16) who went early after playing some lovely shots. Gomersall batted with his usual gritty
determination to post 28 but Morfee was the second wicket to fall for 54. Kynman, Tribe and Parry edged St Ouen’s to
victory, Parry with the assistance of the umpire who gave him not out when the
unlucky bowler Andy Brown should have had him stumped. But unlucky he was as the next to balls flew
for 6 and 4 followed by mutterings from Brownie.
It was left to Micky,
never defeated in St Ouen’s colours, Poulter to hit the winning runs with 1
ball to spare.
